Term 3 wraps up on Friday 25 September 2026, and the spring school holidays run from Monday 28 September to Friday 9 October 2026 for NSW students. That’s two weeks to fill, and “what do we do today” gets old fast.
Here’s an idea. Check out Ice Break, a Sydney Escape Room that sits on Level 10 of the Dymocks Building at 428 George St, just two minutes from Town Hall Station. Four themed rooms, one floor, so a family or friend group can book more than one room and swap stories over lunch afterwards.
Not every room suits every age though, so here’s how we’d split the holidays up.
Which Room Suits Your Age Group?
Younger Kids: Legacy (8+)

If you’ve got kids who want the escape room experience without anything scary, start with Legacy. It’s our easiest escape room, a one hour, story-first game about the family your father left behind, built for players who have never done an escape room before.
There are no jump scares or startling moments, just a warm story and clue-based puzzles the whole family can work through together. It takes groups of 3 to 6 players, so it suits a family outing or a couple of kids and their mates.
Early Teens: Darkness Reborn (14+)

Once the kids are a bit older, Darkness Reborn is a good next step up. It’s our other easy, beginner-friendly room, built around a wizarding-world theme rather than Legacy’s family story.
Players take on the role of a young witch or wizard working out why fellow students keep disappearing. It’s magical rather than scary, and recommended from age 14, so it suits a group of young teens after something a bit more grown-up than Legacy without tipping into horror. It also takes groups of 3 to 6.
Older Teens: Eyes of Argos (15+)

For teens who want more of a challenge, Eyes of Argos is worth a look. It’s our hardest room, a detective mystery built around logic and observation rather than a padlock-and-key hunt.
It suits smaller groups of 3 to 5 players, so it’s a good pick for a group of older teens or a family with teenagers aged 15 and up who want to be properly tested.
Uni Students and Young Adults: Redemption (15+)

Uni students on semester break looking for something more thrilling than another Netflix binge should look at Redemption. It’s our horror and suspense room, with live actors reacting to your group as you piece together what’s happening in Yendys City.
Redemption takes groups of 3 to 10, so it works well for a bigger friend group or a uni club outing. Because it involves darkness, tension and live actors, it’s worth checking our FAQ or calling ahead if anyone in your group is pregnant, has a heart condition, severe anxiety, epilepsy or photosensitive epilepsy, so we can run it safely for everyone.
A Loose Day Out in the CBD
Here’s how a school holiday day out around Ice Break Escape Rooms could look like.
Morning: book a room and turn up 10 to 15 minutes early to check in. Each game runs about an hour, and nobody’s guaranteed to beat the clock, that’s half the fun.
Midday: walk a few minutes to Westfield Sydney on Pitt Street Mall or The Galeries on George Street. Both have food courts with enough variety that everyone in the group can pick their own lunch.
Afternoon: if the kids have energy left, the Pitt Street Mall and QVB precinct is right there for a wander, or duck back to Dymocks on the ground floor of our building for something to read on the train home.
If your group wants to try two rooms in one visit, remember Ice Break can run up to 28 players across rooms at the same time, so it’s easy to split a bigger family or group and compare notes over lunch.
